Casting Light on Old Shadows, 2019

Light and shadow shape the old buildings of Eton College now, the same way they have for hundreds of years. Casting light across the old corridors, classrooms, dormitories and playing fields, all soaked in history and haunted by the ghosts of power and privilege.

I spent the Winter of 2018/19 as Artist in Residence here and during my time I learned of the long and weighted history of the school. As I spent more time wondering the grounds and making my work in these old buildings I gained a strong sense of this place rooted in a time past, all the while people, light and shadows came and went.

It is this sense of time passing, of new light exposing old shadows, that these works look to explore.
